Hosted by The YWCA of Greater Portland Social Justice Program. Training offers a thorough investigation into the dynamics of domestic violence. Domestic violence is a pattern of coercive tactics perpetrated by one person against another with the goal of establishing and maintaining power and control. We will define the various categories of abuse which include physical, sexual, emotional, verbal, psychological, social, financial, spiritual, and technological. We will learn about the cycle of violence, the characteristics of abusive relationships, common tactics, warning signs, and red flags. There will be an analysis of the many barriers to leaving and information about assessing safety and lethality. In addition, we will explore safety planning and discuss the role of an advocate in supporting survivors of abuse.
