Hosted by The YWCA of Greater Portland Social Justice Program. This workshop will provide advocates with the skills necessary to best support sexual assault survivors. We will explore the dynamics of sexual assault by examining the myths and the realities, the tactics, the continuum of violence, the power dynamics, and the victim blaming used to keep survivors silent. We will also discuss the best methods for advocates to assist survivors to navigate the multitude of options including medical examinations, reporting to the police, understanding the criminal justice system, obtaining restraining orders, and seeking various healing avenues.
